The following is a testimonial on one of our support groups.

The CHH grief group is about working through your pain and suffering. The group helps you come to an understanding, or being in a better place, with your emotions and feelings as you talk through your grief. Sally is a fabulous facilitator, who shares her opinions, knowledge, and guidance, as well as listens to you. The Grief Group is a good way to bond with others in a similar situation and express yourself without being judged.

This is a testimonial on our counseling program:

I began coming to CHH for counseling in May of 2012. I suffered from decades of serious depression and a series of hospitalizations. After a few months of both counseling and DBT class I wanted to do something for CHH to say thank you. I started bringing pottery pieces to donate for CHH to sell to benefit this program. This is my hope and healing. Having a reason to make these things and to give them for a good cause gives me hope. Doing pottery gives me healing. This is also my way of giving back.

The following is a testimonial for the New Moms support group that was offered in the spring of 2011.

It was wonderful to meet other mothers and topics covered by the presenter were excellent. There was a good balance between informality and more structured discussion based on great handouts...thanks so much for organizing!

The following is a testimonial from one of the participants of the Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) course, held in the fall of 2010.

I can't say enough positive things about my experience with MBCT classes. I have always been an anxious person and my experiences have left me with some serious deficits in the way of coping skills. I have also struggled with anorexia and addiction and have sought traditional therapy as well as medical intervention. I can honestly say that until I experienced this kind of therapy, I had no real ability to calm myself down or relieve my own suffering; and I was still symptomatic and frustrated on a daily basis.

When I was given the opportunity to attend this class, I was overwhelmed with gratitude, but I had no idea what to expect. From the very first class, I absorbed the concepts Dr. Hicks was teaching us, and I began using the exercises immediately. One night in particular, the week of the first class, I woke up in the middle of the night with a full-blown panic attack, and I was able to use the exercise she taught us the previous week to calm myself down and get some peace. It was truly life-altering.

Since then I have continued to use what I learned in those classes to relieve much of my anxiety, body-image issues, and to deal with my desire to escape from stressful situations with substances. It is a life-long battle for me. But I now feel confident in my ability to deal with my issues in a proactive, rational, loving way that reflects the lessons I learned in MBCT.

This testimonial came from a member of St. Paul's.

I also want to let you – and others – know how happy I am to see success with the Center for Hope and Healing (as well as Care and Share). To me, it is a prime example of what Jesus told us in Matthew 25:40:

“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these
brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

Thank you for helping the “least of these brothers and sisters” of Christ, including me.
